Shirley Adams' Obituary
ADAMS, Dr. Shirley Fay Ford Adams, age 78, of Austell died Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Dr. Adams was born in Florence, SC on March 18, 1932. She attended Columbia College in South Carolina, and earned a degree in Speech and Drama from the University of Georgia. She and her late husband, Dr. William A. Adams, shared a life of ministry and service, and she later earned a Doctor of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary and became an ordained Presbyterian minister. Dr. Adams served as the Associate Pastor of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, GA. She became affiliated with airport ministry in its beginning years, and served as a chaplain at Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta, GA. She ministered to many members of the airport security force, airline employees, and the traveling public.
Dr. Adams continued her servant’s role while living at Presbyterian Village in Austell. There she assisted the chaplain and her Sunday School teacher, and was an active voice for the Presbyterian Village residents. She loved the Atlanta Braves and was thrilled when she went on a field trip to a Braves game with other residents and friends.
Dr. Adams thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family—her children and her grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Ginger Suarez, Cindy Kashi, Dempie Shaul, Kitty Kendrick, William (Buzz) Adams, and Kerry Williams, her sons-in-law; Rick Suarez, Tom Kashi, Pat Shaul, Rick Kendrick, and Wayne Williams, her grandchildren; Adam Suarez, Sally Kazin and her husband Michael, Kelly Ball and her husband Brandon, Nicole Williams and Trevor Williams.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 10am, at Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA. Interment, 3:00pm at Oconee Memorial Park Cemetery, Seneca, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Village, Austell, GA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8pm at Davis – Struempf Funeral Home, Austell. 770-944-2900.
