Sara Virginia (Mrs. Clay C.) Braswell, (1913-2009) formerly of Macon, Georgia died on Saturday, the 21st of February, 2009, at her residence at Brighton Gardens assisted living in Vinings, Georgia. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis (Beverly) Wolfe of Powder Springs, a son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. (Laura) Braswell of Buford, Georgia; four married Grandchildren, Davis and Penny Wolfe, Derek and Anna Wolfe, Clayton and Donna Braswell, Courtney and Martha Braswell, and six Great Grandchildren, Kevin and Justin Wolfe, Sarah, Clay, Everett and Ethan Braswell. Born in Lewisburg, Tennessee to the late Clabe and Carrie Palmer, she was married to the late Clay C. Braswell for over 55 years and had resided in the Macon area for more than 50 years. Sara grew up on a horse farm. Her Grandchildren felt sorry for her when she told them she never had a bicycle but changed their minds when she explained that she had horses instead. An excellent student, she was an outstanding athlete and was given honorable mention as an All-State basketball player. She was a member of the Eastern Star and had been an active volunteer throughout her life. She had been a Cub Scout leader and later volunteered for the Cherry Blossom Festivals in Macon and for Red Cross Blood drives. Sara was a life-long Methodist; she joined the Cherokee Heights Methodist Church in 1948 and remained active in the church and the Pendleton Bible class for over 50 years. A successful businesswoman, she had been the owner and operator of Braswell Department Store in Reynolds, Georgia for over 29 years. She was well known for the twice a year shoe sales she put on and it was rumored that school was late starting the Friday of the sale as so many teachers attended the sale before going to work. Sara remained active in Macon until her move to Greenwood Gardens in Marietta, Georgia in 2002. Since 2008 she had resided at Brighton Gardens in Vinings, Georgia. Reverend E. Jarrell Lillard of Lyons, Georgia officiating.
