Ronald Nelson's Obituary
It is with love and respect that we announce the passing of Ronald Nelson who departed this world at the Veterans Medical Center in Decatur, GA on February 11, 2025 at the age of 82. He was a distinguished veteran of the United States Navy, proudly continuing a legacy of service that spanned generations.
Born in 1942, Ron grew up in a military family, son of Florence J. Mallmann and Commander Robert R. Nelson, career United States Navy Pilot. He was predeceased by his mother, father, aunt Elizabeth Wiggins and sister Sharron Perk.
Ron was a man of many interests. He had a deep love for words, serving as a reporter and as a public communications writer in private industry. His fascination with gadgets led him to explore the latest technological advancements, always seeking to understand how they could improve daily life. He was a problem-solver, with a keen mind for analyzing complex issues and devising efficient solutions. His dedication to improving systems and processes was evident in everything he did, from his military career to his own projects.
Though he was a private individual, Ron was known for his kindness and generosity. His quiet nature belied a sharp intellect and a heart full of warmth, which he shared with those closest to him.
Throughout his life, Ron touched hearts with his unique blend of intelligence, creativity, and often funny observations of human nature. His legacy will live on through the memories and lessons he shared with those around him.
Ron Nelson will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Shannon Betts; two nieces and one nephew; as well as two grandchildren and extended family.
In keeping with his wishes, Ron was cremated. A military service and small local gathering to follow will be held at the convenience of the family at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of America in Ronald Nelson’s honor.
