Josefina and I send our heartfelt condolences to the Ruckert family. I served with SGM Ruckert at Ft. McPherson and attended a birthday party at his house when he was working for USPS. I will always remember SGM’s humor and slightly ruff edges. I’ll always remember the concert during which he pulled off rap was hilarious! Then there was the time when the IG visited the band and asked the shop heads why the band was not more diverse. SGM replied, “I don’t care if they come here swinging on a vine, if they can play their axe.” I almost fell out of my chair. So brazen. So hilarious. So protective of his band. Unfortunately, the cemetery restricted guests to 10 to protect their employees and honor guard, so we will not be attending. Thank you to those who are able to participate. You’re also representing those of us who cannot attend.

My heartfelt sympathy to Gretchen and family. I served with Roger at Ft. Carson, where he was my First Sergeant. Whether he was guiding a new Warrant Officer, or mentoring a young Sergeant, or explaining the facts of life to a new Specialist who knew it all, Roger was a consummate professional and a great leader. But moreover, he was a good, kind, caring, decent man. Rest in Peace, my Friend.
SGM Ruckert was my ideal example of a leader. I admired him and enjoyed serving with him. He made me the NCO that I was. He also made me laugh.
Roger was a great leader and good friend. I will allways treasure the times we had in the 101st Abn and 4th ID bands,. He will be truly missed. Prayers for Gretchen and family.
The Ruckerts were like a second family to me when I was young. Can't thank them enough for so many wonderful memories. All my love to Gretchen and Pam.

Gretchen,
Roger & I were the best of friends. Our paths crossed over the years always resulting in a positive outcome. Our mutual love of music and having a good time were what made us so very comfortable with each other. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Best of luck to you, Larry Ritter
I played in the high school band with Roger. He was a great musician, a leader in the group and lots of fun. It’s great that his talent became his career and that he proudly used it in service to his country. He will be missed but not forgotten. My condolences to Gretchen and family.
