Mr. Robert F. Cothran, age 75 of Mableton, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009. Robert was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He worked for Northfolk Southern Railroad from 1959 Read Obituary

I met Mr. Cothran in 1967 working roadcrossing with Bankhead in Valdosta, Ga.. At that time I did not know what his Title was but I knew he was the Boss. AS a supplier, working for Mr. Cothran, I found him to be fair, treated everyone with respect and dignity. It was no surprise to me to learn that one of his favorite Bible verses was Proverbs 22-1. He was a man of great character and his name was always related to something good. He loved his family, a true friend to many. He will be missed by many but never forgotten as he had a positive impact on many lives and families. He always took care of his people. Carol & I will truly miss him. Bob Cothran loved the railroad when he worked with me years ago. What made him special was his love and respect that he had for all the men and women of Norfolk Southern. We were so sorry to hear about Bob. He was a joy to be around and work with. He was a friend to many people and I was glad to call him my friend. He always had time to lend an ear and offer his help.

When I met Bob any years ago, the very first thing he asked was,"How can I help you?" With that our business and personal friendship began. I had the utmost respect for his knowledge in the railroad industry and as many have said of him, he was the best and most knowledgeable railroad man of his time.
