Paul Francis Susko's Obituary
Paul Susko, 75, of Mableton, GA died peacefully on December 27th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Paul was born on February 13th, 1947 in Pittsburgh, PA. Growing up, Paul enjoyed a job as a caddy on the golf course due to his intense passion for the sport. He pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Slippery Rock University and a Master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Georgia. Paul served in the US Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War.
In 1980, Paul married his wife, Susan. Paul and Susan went on to have one daughter, Jennifer, to whom Paul was an extraordinary father, mentor, friend and support system.
After graduation, Paul worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Georgia. He retired in 2002 after about 30 years in the field. While retired, Paul had more time to pursue his favorite pastimes of playing golf, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, yardwork and spending time with his incredible friends. Paul was an exceptionally good man with a wonderful sense of humor. His friends enjoyed his positive spirit and how he prided himself on making everyone who knew him laugh often. Paul also donated a significant amount of his time serving his community. He participated actively in Keep Cobb Beautiful as well as in initiatives with Mableton Improvement Coalition. He also worked hard to ensure that those experiencing housing and food insecurity were cared for through his dedicated efforts with 7 Bridges to Recovery, Central Presbyterian Night Shelter and Saint Vincent DePaul.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Dolly Susko and his wife, Susan Susko. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Susko, his siblings Mark, Gary, Keith and Maureen and an abundance of friends. We will miss Paul more than words can express.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm at Davis Struempf Funeral Home on Monday, January 2nd. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, January 3rd at 10am at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Brian officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the church's reception hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to 7 Bridges to Recovery or Central Presbyterian Night Shelter, community organizations where Paul volunteered consistently.
