I served as John's pastor for 23 years up until the Church in Mableton was sold. John was one of the most sincere and kind human being I have ever known. He had a great sense of humor. He spent many a day picking up trash that was thrown out on the church grounds. Many years ago he spent several days help myself and Dan rebuild the side porch roof.
John loved the Lord and he loved his church. When Betty passed away John was devastated and he never got over it. He was a man deeply in love with his wife. I have missed him since we moved away from the area.
John is sorely going to be missed, the congregation of Glen Forest / New Harvest loved him. I miss the days he used to just drop by the church office to talk for a little while. I miss the things he used to bring me, like photos of the castle in Germany that he visited and many other thing.
If there was ever a good man, John Stanfill was just that. I am sure he will be happy to see Betty again in heaven.
