James Alexander Pope's Obituary
James Alexander Pope, age 88, of Austell passed away surrounded by his family March 16, 2023. James was born in Tallapoosa, GA to Alexander Stephen Pope and Mary Susan Phillips Pope. He graduated high school in Tallapoosa, and years later was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After his 2 years in the military, he went on to work for the United States Postal Service, and retired from there after 35 years of service.
James was proud of his faith, loved his Lord, and ardently studied his Bible. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Austell.
James is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Philip M. Pope. He is survived by his wife of 62 ½ years, Glenda Hutcheson Pope; children, Rhonda Bloomfield (spouse, David) of Hiram, Melissa Beaver (spouse, Mike) of Woodbine, and Debra Pinker (spouse, Bill) of Austell; siblings, Ira Pope of Anniston, AL, and Joseph Pope (spouse, Betty) of Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Jonathon, Leanna (spouse, Jason), Mark (spouse, Alex), Justin, Kalea, Brandon (spouse, Gina), Bradley, and Christopher; seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 18th, 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Noggle and Rev. Bill Rorie officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the service.
Interment will occur at 2:00 PM at Mozley Memorial Gardens.
