Dr. James A. Griffith Sr.'s Obituary
Dr. James A. Griffith, of Mableton GA, formerly Guntersville Alabama passed away March 20th at his home in Mableton. Beloved father, friend and physician who practiced medicine in Hiram, Powder Springs and Mableton for 67 years. A young man from a working farm, he completed his undergraduate degree in chemistry at The University of Alabama. He then attended the Des Moinse University in Iowa obtaining a degree in Osteopathic medicine and surgery. He began his practice in Hiram GA 1947. He then built his own hospital in Powder Springs where he practiced surgery and obstetrics. Dr. Griffith delivered over 1500 babies there never losing a mother. He opened Bankhead Clinic in 1974 and served the community in general practice until 2014. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for over 50 years in Mableton GA. In 1997 The James A Griffith bridge in Austell was dedicated in his honor. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Frances Jordan Griffith and sister Louise Griffith. He leaves behind his son James A. Griffith Jr. and countless friends and patients who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Davis Struempf Funeral Home in Austell GA. The service will be Thursday March 26th at 11 AM. . He will be laid to rest in Guntersville, AL.
