George Woody Thompson Jr.'s Obituary
George Woody Thompson, Jr., age 71, passed away peacefully at the Southwest Christian Care Hospice on March 25th 2018. A lifelong resident of Mableton, GA, Woody graduated from South Cobb High School and was a 1968 graduate from The University of West Georgia. He was a local business owner, realtor, and loved serving his community as a Cobb County Commissioner for 12 years. Woody was a devoted member of Southwest Christian Church, where he spent his entire life in service to his Lord. He will be remembered as a man with great integrity, upstanding character, and an unwavering moral compass.
Preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Virginia Thompson, and his son George Brian Thompson. Survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jane Thrash Thompson (Betsy), daughters Laura Miller (husband Justin) and Susan Frieman (husband Michael), four beautiful grandchildren, Phoebe, Bo, & Clementine Miller and Nash Frieman, brother Steve Thompson, and niece Amy Thompson Hill.
A celebration of his life will take place on Wednesday, March 28th, The Church at Chapel-Hill (4330 Washington Road in East Point) at 2pm with Rev. James White and Rev. Craig Kingston officiating, receiving friends at 1pm. Visitation with the family will be held at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home in Austell on Tuesday, March 27th from 6pm to 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southwest Christian Care Hospice in Union City.
