Freddie Jo Hughes' Obituary
Freddie Jo Hughes, age 88, of Lithia Springs and formerly of Powder Springs, passed away April 23, 2022. Jo was born to Fred and Nellie Mae Gordon in Austell. She was a proud graduate of Powder Springs High School and still kept in touch with her graduating class. Jo loved to call Powder Springs “her old stomping ground.”
Her church and her church family were very important to her. Jo was a long-time member of Lithia Springs Church of God. She was devoted to her family and her beloved grandsons. In her free time, she was a master of creativity; her creative endeavors included interior decorating, gardening, cooking, and China painting. She was also drawn to the outdoors and loved camping and traveling with her family. Jo was a very personable lady as well as a fantastic storyteller and she could always captivate an audience. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Jo is preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia Mitchell, Linda O’Shields, and Jerry Gordon. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Franklin D. Hughes; children, Jill Hughes Johnson of Temple, and Penny Hughes Simmons (husband, Forrest) of Lookout Mountain; grandchildren, Samuel Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Mitchell Simmons, and Carter Simmons; and many extended family members and church friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 26th, 12:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Ann Hackney officiating. Interment will follow the service at Powder Springs City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 PM before the service.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all who devoted their time and efforts in the care of Mrs. Jo; your dedication means the world to them.
