Fannie was such a special part of my life and a treasured friend. I first met Fannie when I came to GMS to teach 8th grade. My husband, Jim, always tells people that Fannie taught me how to teach. It is true, Fannie took me under her wing and became my mentor and boy did I ever need it. She would tell me that she was not trying to be bossy but do this. She taught me skills that I still use in my life today. Fannie had eyes in the back of her head but the students always knew that she cared. She also told me one day when I was a little upset, that they can't get your goat if they don't know where it is tied.
During my second year at Garrett I was planning to get married and asked Fannie to be a part of my wedding by making sure that everyone signed the guest book. Not only did everyone sign the book but many of those friends still ask about my friend Fannie.
Fannie was the true southern lady and and I could always call on her for questions about manners, etiquette or grammar.
Fannie was a gifted writer, speaker, teacher and listener. But what I will miss most of all is our talks ~ fashion, books, recipes, restaurants. gardening, our mutual love of the beach, politics, our cats, friends, and family.
I will miss you terribly dear friend.
