Clyde Milton Vansant's Obituary
Clyde Milton Vansant, age 98, of Mableton went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2023. Clyde was born in Douglas County, but lived in multiple parts of the state as a child, including Statesboro and Ringgold. After his father’s death when he was 12, the family went back to Winston and settled on his grandfather’s farm.
Clyde was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served our country during World War II from 1943 to 1945. After his service, he went on to have a lengthy career as a computer programmer for Southern Railroads, retiring from there in 1985.
A huge part of Clyde’s life was his church family. Clyde had been a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church since 1947, and served the church in many capacities, including Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. He was also a proud member of Gideons International.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Jeanelle Vansant (née Harding). He is survived by his children, Wayne Vansant of Mableton and Nick Vansant (wife, Kemie) of Yorkville; sisters, Doris Huckabee, Margaret Tidwell (husband, Gene), and Carol Ellis (husband, Guy “Buddy”); grandchildren, Tamara, Tiffany, Trisha, and Tyler; 11 great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 16th, 2:00 PM at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church with Dr. Randal Whitten officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideons International, https://www.gideons.org/
