About thirty four years ago Claude hired me as a helper when I was laid off from my job.
We were neighbors at that time, and up until that time I had established a tarnished reputation with him. He could intimidate some pretty big tough guys on the job site if they crossed him, so I wanted to stay on his good side. I worked hard, but somehow got the feeling that I had not earned his trust. Thanks to Claude's family and church, I had a life changing experience with God that is still affecting me today. However, Claude was still not completely convinced that it was genuine at first because of the sudden change.
One day on the job he decided it was time for a showdown, and he looked me hard in the eyes and said "I see right through you!". I told him from my heart "I hope that you do". From that day forward he treated me as a part of his own family. I not only felt trusted, but I felt loved. He had a big heart. He did not trust easily, because he cared so much about his family and friends, and watched out for them. Claude was a very big man in a small frame. He had a grip like a vise, seemed to know no fear.
There will never be another one like him. I am glad to have known him, and look forward to seeing him in the Kingdom of God.
