Bernice Rella Dufano's Obituary
Bernice R. Dufano, age 85, a resident of Mableton, Ga., passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2017 at Atria of Mableton after a brave battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
She was the daughter of the late John T. Broehm and Susan A. Slowinski Broehm. Bernice was a graduate of Lincoln High School. At 14 she volunteered at a Catholic hospital in Manitowoc. She later worked at Mirro Aluminum Company as a clerk. On October 22, 1955 she married Richard J. Dufano and was married for 50 years. Bernice worked as a parapro at Clay Elementary for 30 years. Bernice opened the school every morning and was a tutor at the school and in her home for years. Educating children was very important to her. She also worked with the Community School program. Bernice enjoyed clothes shopping, crocheting, reading and coloring.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard J. Dufano and her sister Janet M. Gaterman. She is survived by her four sons and their wives: Jim and Sandra of Pace, Fl., Mike and Carolyn of Atlanta, Ga., Dennis and Marie of Dallas, Ga., and Thomas and Clara of Cartersville, Ga., 6 grandchildren: Alexander, Cassandra, Gordon, Andrew, Tyler, and Amber, brother Kenny Broehm and his wife Audrey Broehm and brother-in-law Glenn Gaterman all of Manitowoc, WI., nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
An interment service will be held at a later date to be determined at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga. Arrangements are with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, Austell.
