William Turner Sr. "Billy" 's Obituary
Strong, Funny, Adventurous, Hard-Working, Witty, Humorous, Bold, Determined, a Provider and without a doubt, One-Of-A-Kind! These words are only a FEW of many ways we could describe our dad, William Wade Turner, SR, also known as “Billy”, “Bill”, “BT” and “Papaw”.
William Wade Turner, SR was born April 13, 1945 in Macon, Georgia; while being raised in Powder Springs, Georgia. Mr. Turner is a lifelong resident of Cobb County and a graduate of one of the local high schools, South Cobb High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Penny Landers Turner.
Upon graduating high school, Mr. Turner enlisted in the Army National Guard and also attended college at Georgia State University obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Mr. Turner married his high school sweetheart and together they celebrated 45 years of marriage. During their marriage, they raised 3 beautiful children, had 6 grandchildren, with 1 great-granddaughter.
In 2018 Mr. Turner retired from the State of Georgia, Department of Corrections after dedicating 30 years of employment as a Lt. Security Engineer.
Mr. Turner was always busy, a man in constant motion. He taught us all to love the outdoors and those GEORGIA BULLDOGS! Mr. Turner was passionate about hunting at his hunting camp in Round Oak, Ga; catching largemouth bass and other fish at the family property called the “Fish Pond”; while sitting on the dock enjoying the quiet and natural sounds of nature. During hunting season, Mr. Turner is known to say, “I’m going to kill an M-O-N-S-T-E-R today”; basically, his way of saying he was going to get a BIG’in!!
During football season, regardless if he was in those sacred woods, looking for that M-O-N-S-T-E-R, he was without a doubt yelling, cheering and screaming “GOO DAWGS, SIC Em, WOOF WOOF WOOF”!! Honestly, it really didn’t matter where he was, as he would have headset radio headphones on listening to the GREAT Larry Munson call those Georgia Bulldogs.
When Mr. Turner wasn’t hunting, listening to Larry Munson or glued to a TV watching the Georgia game, you would catch him sitting on the tailgate of his truck, relaxing to some country music; teaching his grand-daughters how to dance.
On December 10, 2019, our father was reunited with the love of his life of 45 years! Mr. Turner is survived by his son and daughter in law, Wade and Kellie Turner of Cartersville; daughter Christy Smith of Villa Rica; daughter Amanda Turner of Mableton; grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Josie Turner; Gage, Gaby Smith; Ava Marria; and great-granddaughter Brinleigh Turner. Mr. Turner is also survived by brother Johnny and (Glenda) Turner; sister Diane and (Terry) Ellerbee and sister in Law Cynthia Ayres
Visitation services will be held at Davis Strumpf Funeral Home on Sunday December 15, 2019 from 2:00-6:00 pm. All family and friends are welcomed.
