William "Monk" Petty's Obituary
William G. Petty, affectionately known as Monk, age 92 of Marietta, passed away February 17, 2025.
Monk was born to Murphy Arlee Petty and Lois Othelia Petty (neé Guyton) in Atlanta, GA. He spent his formative years in Atlanta and attended West Fulton High School.
Monk proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Ever the outdoorsman, Monk found solace and peace in nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and prided himself on working in his garden. He loved rooting on Georgia teams, and especially favored the UGA Bulldawgs and the Atlanta Braves.
Monk was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ellen Howard Petty; his parents; and his siblings, Murph, Jack, and Janelle.
Monk is survived by his daughters, Lizette Petty Smith (Carey) of Carrollton, Lisa Petty of Marietta, and Leslie Ellen Petty (Bo Graham) of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Cody (Michelle), Clayton (Ashley), Cayla (Nathan), Richie (Brittany), Belle (Autry), Andrew, Merrin, and Bryson; seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

The celebration will take place on March 9th from 2-5 pm at Pinnacle Places Events (2778 Broad Street, Austell, Georgia 30106) The venue is in downtown Austell.
