William Eugene Everett's Obituary
Major William E. Everett US Army (Retired) of Powder Springs, GA, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 31st, 2023, while surrounded by his loving wife of 70 years and family.
William Eugene Everett, known to his friends and family as Bill, was born in Atlanta, GA, January 3rd, 1931, to William Rex Everett and Ida May Everett.
Major Everett served his country in the US Army from 1948 until 1968. He fought in and survived the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In 1948 he enlisted in the Army in Atlanta, GA with the rank of recruit. In 1949, he received orders and was assigned to the Korean Military Advisory Group. With his love for the military, he re-enlisted in 1951 and was assigned to the “A” Company 63rd Tank Battalion in 1953. Completed Officer Candidate School in 1955. Excelled in and graduated Flight School in 1957 and became an official Army Aviator November 22, 1957, as 2nd Lieutenant. Assigned to the 220th Aviation Company in Vietnam. Promoted to Major on June 29th 1966. His last assignment was as Flight Commander of “A” Flight in Fort Stewart, Georgia. After 20 years of his dedication to the Army and moving 37 times with his loving family, he retired in 1968. William E. Everett began his civilian career in commercial roofing equipment and textiles before retiring full time after years in the commercial granite and marble industry.
He treasured spending time with his family and friends by hosting numerous holiday events and was the primary cook for these gatherings. He loved both vegetable and flower gardening, trout fishing, shooting, running, and working in the yard.
He was preceded in death by Aunt Ernestine “Pete” Huff, brother-in-law Curtis Freeman Poole, and nephews Curtis Freeman Poole, Jr. and William Dan Poole.
Left to cherish his memory is the light of his life, his wife Virginia Hembree Everett. He is survived by his children Susan Irene Breton ( Bernard ) of Powder Springs, GA, William Eugene Everett, II ( Mayra) of Douglasville, GA, and Linda Helen Everett of Hiram, GA; Grandchildren – Michelle Irene O’Farrill, Jennifer Erin Lawson (Duncan) and Laura May Durham and their father Chris Chapman, Christine Marie Everett (fiancé Aaron Swann) and Mary Elizabeth Everett; Great Grandchildren – Anwyn Irene O’Farrill, Ellesey Durham, Maycee Steele, Archer Rakestraw; sister Joyce E. Poole.
The family will receive friends and family at 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM , Thursday April 6th at Davis Struempf prior to the service.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, April 6th, 2023 at Davis Struempf Funeral Home at 1975 East-West Connector, Austell, GA 30106. Reverend Tom Grantham will be officiating.
