Wendell Harrelson's Obituary
On April 4, 2013, we lost our hero, Wendell H. Harrelson. He was born at home on January 8, 1923, one of nine children, and is still survived by his sisters, Myrtle Cochran and Lucille Jowers, and brothers, Neal Harrelson and Clyde Harrelson. He married Edna Louise Crowder and raised a family of two sons, Michael W. Harrelson and Anthony B. Harrelson, and one daughter, Debora G. Collins. He had seven grandkids and 15 great grandchildren.
He served his country with honor and distinction during World War II. As a decorated B-24 Bomber Pilot, he flew over 20 missions in Europe with five missions over Berlin. He received many medals including the Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and the United States Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
He went on to work at the Atlanta Gas Light Company for 37 years. He received many awards and citations for his productivity and safety at AGL.
He will truly be missed, for all that met or knew him would always comment what a Good Man he was and what a loss his passing is for all. Rest in Peace, Wendell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 until 7 PM. The funeral service to honor his life will be held at the Davis-Struempf Chapel on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Debbie Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
