Waymon Dewey Westbrook's Obituary
Waymon Dewey Westbrook, age 80, of Clarkdale passed on to his Heavenly home June 15, 2024.
Waymon was born to J.D. and Onetta Westbrook in Douglasville. He spent his youth growing up in Powder Springs, and recalled seeing his first John Wayne film in the “bad curve” on Hill Road. Waymon worked for the National Envelope Company for over 30 years, where he was a forklift driver, and occasionally sold pallets on the side.
Waymon was a man of strong faith. He was devoted to his Lord and very involved in his church communities. A lifetime member of Revival/Welcome Hill Baptist Church, Waymon also played guitar and sang for many years in the gospel group “The Anointed”. He would travel around to nursing homes to bring music and the Good Word to others.
Waymon had many talents. Over the years, he had picked up multiple instruments by ear. Affectionately known as “The Guitar Man”, Waymon had played at many local churches, get-togethers, and funerals. Waymon never met a stranger and had a special knack for bringing joy to others. He was quick with a joke and a smile. Waymon had lots of sayings that his family hold dear:
“If you need me, I’ll call you”
“Glad you got to see me”
And one that truly personifies who is he: “If you see someone without a smile, give ‘em one.”
Waymon’s ministry was checking on others. The miles that he put on his vehicles were largely dedicated to the “traveling man” going around to make sure everyone was doing okay. If he had two tomatoes, one was for you. Waymon was full of genuine kindness and love for others, and his memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
Waymon was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. And Onetta Westbrook; siblings, Junie Westbook, Koteen “Kay” Harris, Joel Westbrook, Harold Westbrook; and his son, Wayne Hooten.
He survived by his loving children, Cindy Morgan (husband, Jason) of Hiram, Lindey Precious Westbrook of Hiram, Benny Hooten (wife, Jan) of Bremen, Billy Hooten of Hiram, and Brenda Hooten of Austell; brother, James Westbrook of Calhoun; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends that held a special place in his heart.
A funeral service honoring Waymon’s life will be held Wednesday, June 19th, 11:00 AM at Welcome Hill Baptist Church in Hiram with Rev. Jason Morgan and Brother Nathan Knight officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM before the service. Interment will follow the service at Morris Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
God Bless.
