Wanda Jean Blackmon's Obituary
Wanda Jean Blackmon “Grammy”, of Austell, GA, was called home to the Lord on February 26th, 2026 at 85 years old.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years,John Blackmon, her children Andra (Doyle) Pittman, Nick (Stefani) Blackmon, grandchildren Caitlyn (Michael) Travieso, Clayton (Rebecca) Pittman and Luke Blackmon and great-grandchildren Sydney, Aspen and Memphis Pittman.
She is preceded in death by her mother Essie Shirley, father Gene Brown, stepfather Terry Shirley and siblings Doris, Euclid and Kenneth Brown.
Wanda was born in Alabama on August 7, 1940 and at the age of five Essie moved Wanda and her siblings to Douglasville, GA, where Wanda eventually met her husband Johnny through his cousin Pat, Wanda’s friend. Wanda and John were married on May 22, 1959.
Wanda held many roles throughout her life-- she worked at a Printing Press in Atlanta on Peachtree St., Lovable Lingerie company and did bookkeeping for her husband’s businesses for many years. And through the years she became a mother, grandmother (Grammy), and great grandmother. Wanda was a true care giver, whether it was taking care of a friend in need, making sure her husband and family were taken care of or serving through music ministry at church or in her local community, Wanda was always looking for a way to help those around her.
Wanda was known by many for her sense of humor, always one to crack a joke or play a prank, just so she could be a part of making someone else laugh or smile. She was a faithful woman of God--being a member of Mableton Church of God which became Highest Praise Church of God since 1967 and then a member of Lost Mountain Church of God, her last church home, serving in the music ministry at each.
Wanda was an artist, with a love for music (singing and playing the piano), as well as a painter, crafting pieces of art cherished by her family.
Wanda’s kindheartedness, humor, faithfulness and artistry will be remembered and forever held in the hearts of her loved ones and those who knew her.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, March 2, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
A funeral service honoring Wanda's life will be held Tuesday, March 3, 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Pastor Rick Shirley officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Mozley Memorial Gardens.
in honor of our fashionable Wanda we ask that friends wear her favorite color green or express themselves with animal print or something sparkly, because she loved both.
