Walter Hammond's Obituary
Walter Hammond, born to Myra Russ Hammond and Raymond Hammond, enjoyed reminiscing about his years in the military, traveling, watching movies, and talking about history. Mr. Hammond is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Linda Jan Acker Hammond; his loving daughter, Michele Hammond Sabbatini and her husband, Premo Sabbatini; sister, Julia Faye Preczwski of Salem, MA.; sister, Cheryl (Steve) Formanek; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Retired –CMSGT. Walter Stanley Hammond, age 80, of Mableton, GA. Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning December 27, 2015 after a brief hospital stay at Cobb Wellstar Hospital in Austell, GA. Walter Hammond proudly served in the United States Air force during the Korean and Vietnam War. He retired on February 1, 1979 after 26 years. He worked in many fields during his military career including titan and minuteman missiles, as well as aeronautical engineering. “The military suited Mr. Hammond’s sense of order and code of loyalty.” Mr. Hammond worked for Lockeed Ga. Company in Marietta for 20 years after retiring from the USAF. He was a proud member of the 32nd Degree Masons, and the Yarrab Shiners. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00PM Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton. Family will receive friends from 10:30AM – 11:30AM before the service at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home, Austell. In lieu of flowers the Hammond family request that donations be made in his memory to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite. www.chao.org.
