Virginia "Ginny" Gamel Allen's Obituary
Dorothy “Virginia” Gamel Allen, age 87 of Lithia Springs, Georgia went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior in the comfort of her home with family by her side April 3, 2019. A long-time member of Lithia Springs First Baptist Church, Virginia was born in Paulding County, January 28, 1932, to the late J.T. and Alma Gamel.
Upon graduating from Douglas County High School (1949), Virginia went on to work at the Federal Reserve Bank, Floors/Orkin, Selig Chemical (where she was Credit Manager), the Veteran’s Administration, and ended her long work career at General Services Administration (GSA) in Atlanta winning various awards and commendations over the years. Most of her friends at work called her “Ginny”.
Virginia particularly enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and listening to gospel music.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was proceeded in death by her brother, Max Gamel. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Claudius Earl Allen, Jr, her daughters, Dale Hanson and husband Dave, Dayna Chambers and husband Joe, son Chris Allen and wife Angie, all of Douglas County, brothers, Wendell Gamel (Betty) of Montgomery, Texas, Sarah Belflower (Joe) of Maitland, FL, Terry (Joan) Gamel of Hiram, GA, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 5 at 2:00 pm at Davis- Struempf Funeral Home, 1975 East-West Connector, Austell, GA, with Pastor Mike Sinyard and Tony Godfrey officiating. The family will receive visitors at Davis- Struempf from 12:30 – 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens, Mableton, Georgia.
