Virginia Irene Hembree Everett's Obituary
Virginia Irene Hembree Everett of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023, at the age of 91 while surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. She epitomized the values of family bonds and had an unwavering love for our Lord, Jesus Christ. Known to her family and friends as “Ginny”, she was born in Smyrna, Georgia on November 27th, 1932, to James Homer Hembree and Elsie Irene Hembree.
On July 3, 1952, she married the love of her life Sgt. William E Everett. After 70 memorable years of marriage, Major Everett (U.S. Army ret.) preceded her in death on March 31 of 2023. Virginia H. Everett had an impeccable work ethic and applied this principle to every aspect of her life. Her faith, eagerness to learn, selflessness courage and nurturing ways prepared her for a beautiful and adventurous life. After transferring from Mableton High School to Austell High School to learn clerical skills and graduating as Salutatorian in 1949, she obtained employment with Pacific South Insurance Company. She worked at Charles Clarke Properties as a real estate agent and later as a broker for C.U.T. Realty before joining Rich’s law department as secretary for several attorneys. Her warm smile, professionalism, and gentle but effective manner earned her the title of “Gate keeper for the lawyers”. She retired in 1998 as Executive Administrator for Rich’s after 25 years of dedicated service.
As a newlywed, she left everything she knew to travel by herself to New York and then by ocean liner to Zeibrucken, Germany, later moving 37 times and giving birth in Wurtzburg and Regansburg, Germany, and Tacoma, Washington. After 20 years of military life, they settled in Austell, Georgia, in a newly built house close to her 8 siblings where she lived for 51 years. In 2021, they moved to Powder Springs into what she affectionately called her “dollhouse”. Ginny and Bill hosted numerous holidays gatherings, birthday celebrations, and always celebrated the 4th of July ( the day after their anniversary) around their pool with family and friends. She had an unconditional love for all, but especially for her 5 granddaughters, 4 great grandchildren, and her soon-to-be-born first great-great granddaughter (who will be the eighth generation of Irene’s). Virginia Irene (derived from Eirene, Greek Goddess of Peace) more than lived up to the meaning of her name. She lived with grace and saw each day as a gift from our Heavenly Father. Her love for God and her church made her genuinely happy. She dedicated 25 years as Choir Director at Powder Springs Church of God of Prophecy. She loved the reading the Bible, music, reading novels, quilting, sewing, ceramics, painting, vegetable gardening (without snakes), swimming, babies, acclimating little ones to the pool, nutrition, and exercising up until her last days.
She was preceded in death by siblings Edgar Durrell Hembree, James Howard Hembree, Margaret Helen Murdoch, Tommy D Hembree, Valeria Marcelle Hooks and Doris E Gramling.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Susan Irene Breton (Bernard) of Powder Springs, GA, William E. Everett, II (Mayra) of Douglasville, GA, Linda Helen Everett of Hiram, GA. Grandchildren- Michelle Irene O’Farrill, Jennifer Erin Lawson (Duncan) & Laura May Durham and their father Chris Chapman, Christine Marie Swann (Aaron), and Mary Elizabeth Everett (fiance’ Kristopher Norwood).
Great Grandchildren- Anwyn Irene O’Farrill, Ellesey Durham, Maycee Steele, Archer Rakestraw; Sisters Ann Elsberry (Ted), Catherine Hembree. Sisters in law Sarah Joyce Poole, Vera Hembree; brother in law Edward Hooks and all her beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Virginia will be remembered for her boundless love for Jesus. She is dancing with her beloved Savior.
