Virginia Mae Blackwell, age 85 of Mableton passed away August 7, 2020. Virginia was a faithful member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for 20 years. She retired after 28 long years as a social worker for the states of South Carolina Read Obituary
While wonderfully hungry (Philippians 4:12), I share that Virginia and I often talked about our LORD telling us to love (John 15:12) each other as He loves us.

I met Virginia Blackwell through her daughter, Valeri, who became my best friend during our college years together. Her family was my family and we shared mutual friends and a whole lot of laughter together. I will always remember her smile and and words of wisdom. She loved the Lord and her family very much. It gives me comfort to know that it was her desire and lifelong prayer to go to sleep and wake up in the arms of Jesus. Her prayers were answered. Rest peacefully, my friend.

Such a wonderful person. Almost 40 years ago she packed me up and took me to her home to stay two weeks prior to my delivery date so I would not go into labor alone. That’s the kind of person she was. I will always love her.

Virginia Blackwell was such a blessing to me. After my daughter died in 2013 and then my husband died in 2014, I was not attending a church regularly, but searching for one to attend. I was a member at Mt. Harmony Baptist. My husband and I were married there, and we raised our children there, but we had wandered away. In January of 2015 I got a note in the mail inviting me to Sunday School and church at Mt. Harmony, signed by V. Blackwell. God spoke to me through that note and told me I needed to go back to Mt. Harmony. I did the very next Sunday and met Mrs. Virginia. We became instant friends and companions. She was my inspiration and filled me with so much hope and love. She was such an example of the way we all should be as Christ followers. I miss her dearly, but have no doubt that she is in the presence of Jesus at this very moment. I look forward to seeing her again when God calls me home. (I still have that precious note she sent me.)
