Veronica Lynn Rankin's Obituary
Veronica Lynn Rankin, age 68, of Sharpsburg passed away surrounded by her family on October 26, 2023. Veronica was born to Thomas Joe Harold Baggett and Christine Baggett (née Watkins) in Atlanta, but spent her formative years in Austell. A graduate of South Cobb Highschool, Veronica went on to pursue higher education with a Bachelors degree from Kennesaw State University and a Masters from Piedmont University.
Veronica was passionate about education. She spent most of her working years as a middle school math teacher, and taught students at Awtrey, Dobbins, Moses, and McClure Middle Schools. She retired in 2018 after 18 years of teaching young minds.
In her free time, Veronica loved to garden, a joy that she inherited from her father. Her specialty was her vegetable and herb garden. She also loved walking the beach and trawling the sand for seashells.
She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Baggett. Veronica is survived by her children, Lindsay Hybart (spouse, Jared) of Sharpsburg and Alex Rankin (fiancée, Alena Whitlock) of Dunwoody; mother, Christine Shirley of Cullman, AL and formerly of Douglasville; siblings, Beverly “Joy” Norris (spouse, Ricky) of Cullman, AL, Janice Baggett of Atlanta, and Shelia Clackum (spouse, Tracy) of Douglasville; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2nd, 1:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday form 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home.
