Thomas William Saxton's Obituary
Thomas “Tom” William Saxton, 79, of Marietta, GA, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2025.
He was born in Evanston, IL, in 1946 to Thomas Edward Saxton and Clara Bessie (Gillette) Saxton. Tom grew up in Grayslake, IL, where he graduated from Grayslake High School. During the Vietnam War era, he served in the Army in South Korea from 1966 to 1968. When he returned, he attended and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, after which he worked as a police officer and probation officer in Illinois. In 1979, he moved to Athens, GA, to attend the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. It was at UGA that he met his wife of 42 years, Sharon Anne (Anderson) Saxton. Tom and Sharon graduated from pharmacy school together in 1982, after which he worked as a retail and hospital pharmacist until his retirement in 2009.
Tom was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart, and the ability to get along with anyone. He loved telling stories from his colorful life and would regale anyone who listened. He was a lifelong dog owner and lover of all animals. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, and camping with his family. In his youth, he was a competitive weight lifter, a skill in which he always took pride. Tom was an avid lover of music. His taste in music spanned from oldies to bluegrass to jazz, and he loved playing this music at top volume, always singing along. While in the Army, he played baritone in one of the bands and sang in the Bayonet Chorus. After his retirement, he found great enjoyment in playing trumpet and guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughters, Julie and Cassie; his granddaughter Ayre; his sister, Judi; and his niece, Nicole.
Memorial arrangements are forthcoming and will be shared when finalized. Please check back for details.
