Thomas Edward Marshall III (Tom or TomEd), 99 of Austell, Georgia died November 8, 2014.
Born September 7, 1915 in Tye River, Virginia, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Marshall Jr. and Margaret Quinn Marshall. Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Carroll Pugh Marshall.Tom graduated from The Miller Manual Labor School of Albemarle, the
Nashville Automobile College and the Bliss Electrical School. He worked as a civilian engineer for the Naval Weapons Lab and the U. S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) for 31 years. During his time at the NRL he was granted 7 Patents. Tom enjoyed genealogy, restoring furniture, fishing, hunting, growing roses, serving as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church and gardening. He moved to Presbyterian Village in Austell, Georgia in 1995.Tom is survived by a daughter Linda Marshall Mitchell and husband George T. Mitchell; a son Thomas Edward Marshall IV “Tem” and wife Kathryn E. Marshall; grand children Matthew T. Mitchell and wife Melinda Mitchell; Carolyn Mitchell; Kimberly Marshall Gray and husband Brian Gray; Stephanie Marshall Magnus and husband Mack M. Magnus; and five great grandchildren Millie Kate Gray, Marshall Gray, Maggie Gray, Mils Magnus, and Lucy Magnus. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday November 14, 2014 at Presbyterian Village Lakeview Room, East-West Connector Austell, Ga. with the Rev. Debbie Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Jones Memorial Library, 2311 Memorial Ave. Lynchburg, Va. 24501.
