Rev. Thomas Edward "Eddie" Barton's Obituary
Rev. Thomas Edward “Eddie” Barton, age 85, of Lapine, AL passed on to his Heavenly home July 13, 2025.
Born and raised in Mableton, Eddie was one of four sons born to Ed and Irene Barton. After graduating from South Cobb High School, Eddie bravely joined the United States Army and spent 6 years in service to our nation.
Following his military service, Eddie transitioned into another public service role as a firefighter in Atlanta. Shortly after, he moved into insurance, a position he kept until 1982. The Lord was quietly working on Eddie’s heart, and it was in 1989 that he completed seminary and joined the ministry.
Eddie has served a number of ministries over the years. He spent ten years in service to Castlewood Chapel, eight years at Concord Baptist Church, and five at Bradleyton Baptist. He served as chaplain of Atlanta Motor Speedway and he and Alice traveled extensively with Raceway Ministries. This position fueled his passion for racing and helped him form an impressive collection of racing memorabilia.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Alice Barton; children, Tammy Townley of Centre, Al, April Barton of Seattle, WA, Dawn Leenerts (Brad) of Waleska, GA, Charles “Buddy” Woodfin (Paige) of Vilonia, AR, and Mary Boggs (Andy) of Lacombe, LA; brothers, David Barton, Keith Barton, and Dennis Barton (Charlene); thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved extended family and friends.
A funeral service honoring Eddie’s life will be held Thursday, July 17th, 1:00 PM at Concord Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00 PM before the service.
Interment will follow the service at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Concord Baptist Church, 4494 Floyd Rd SW, Mableton, GA 30126.
