Ted Junior Elsberry's Obituary
Ted Junior Elsberry passed away on January 9, 2026 at the age of 92.
Ted was born in Powder Springs, Georgia, and graduated from Powder Springs High School. He lived (and worked) on the family farm until the age of 19 when he was drafted into the Army and served three years. When he left the Army he joined the Air National Guard where he worked for 20+ years. He received the Award of the Georgia Commendation Medal in 1975 and advanced to Senior Master Sergeant of Base Supply at Dobbins Air Force Base.
One day after he returned home from service, he saw a girl walking down the street in Austell. He told his Mom he was going to marry her…and he did. Ted married Anne Hembree on June 12, 1957. They purchased a home in Mableton, GA where they lived until 2003, when they moved to Austell. Ted and Anne had one child.
Ted liked watching baseball, going fishing and bowling. Ted loved going on family vacations. Of the many places he visited his favorite was Branson, MO, returning there eight times.
Those who knew him knew he was meticulous with his yard. Even after he became unable to keep the yard himself, he didn’t mind telling others how to do it. For the past several years, one of Ted’s favorite things to do was to sit outside in his patio swing and wave as people passed. Many would recognize him and blow the horn to say hello.
Ted is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne Hembree Elsberry, his daughter Cindy Elsberry, Sisters-in-Law Catherine Hembree and Vera Hembree and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Burrell “Burl” and Dallie Elsberry, brothers Clyde and Ray Elsberry, sisters Mary Kate Peppers, Elyvan Henson Milam and Florene Bennett Swilling.
Many thanks to Amy Smith of Amazing Grace Hospice and Peta Knight-Dennis of Steps of Faith Care Home in Temple, GA for their care and compassion. Special thanks to his niece, Lisa Thomas, for going the extra mile time and time again.
A funeral service honoring Ted's life will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel, with long-time friend F. Joel Thomas officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the service.
Interment will follow the service at Powder Springs Christian Fellowship Church.
