Susan Carol Lowry's Obituary
Susan Carol Lowry, 75, of Powder Springs, GA, passed away peacefully at Bethel Gardens on March 19, 2024.
Susan was born in Athens, GA in 1948 to James Towers and Dorothy Jenkins Lowry. Susan was the oldest of the four children born to J.T. and Dorothy. The family moved from Athens, GA to Birmingham, AL, where Susan was baptized into the Christian faith at the 4th Avenue Baptist Church. The family then settled in Austell, GA in 1964. Susan graduated from South Cobb High School in Austell, GA in 1966 and attended Marietta Vocational School in 1969.
As a young child, Susan had a horse named Dolly who she loved to ride and jump. She began playing the piano at a very young age and became the pianist at several churches in the Austell and Smyrna areas. She loved serving the Lord in this way, which delighted her mom and dad. Susan would accompany her father on the piano while he would lead worship at Calvary Baptist Church and Brookwood Baptist Church and she was the pianist at her sister's wedding. In 1992 she joined Riverside Church of God where she remained a member until her death. She loved expressing herself through arts and crafts, had a great sense of humor and loved making people smile and laugh. Susan held various administrative assistant positions, taught piano in the community, was a substitute teacher for Cobb County School and a private in-home healthcare giver until she retired.
Susan is proceeded in death by her father, J.T. Lowry and mother, Dorothy Jenkins Lowry.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Marie Newman of Dallas, GA; sister Nancy Bolton (Ken) of Hamilton, GA; brother David Lowry (Naomi) of Powder Springs, GA; and sister Judy Lowry of Dallas, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; three great -nieces, and two great-nephews, whom she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held privately for the family.
