Stewart Robert Reid Sr.'s Obituary
Stewart Robert Reid, Sr. died peacefully at his home in Austell, Georgia, on January 2, 2013. He is survived by Stephanie (Stevie) Berry Reid, his wife of 68 years, daughter Stephanie (Jenny)Reid Pomeroy And son Stewart Robert (Bob) Reid, Jr. Survivors include four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Stewart was born on January 19, 1921 in Swords, Georgia. He served in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot in the 8th Air Force in WWII, flying 35 combat missions over Europe.
After the war, his civilian pursuits included volunteer fireman, 27 years, three terms as city councilman, and three terms as mayor of Austell. He served in the First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Rotary Club and American Legion. He owned Stewart Reid Heating and Air Conditioning Company, retiring in 1981. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 2:00 PM, First United Methodist Church of Austell. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prevent Blindness Georgia, 739 W. Peachtree St., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30308.
