Shirley Faye Biggs' Obituary
Shirley Faye Biggs, 83, formerly of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Monday, November 21st, 2022. The eighth of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Talmage Barefoot, Shirley was born in Dunn, North Carolina on October 31, 1939.
Shirley grew up in Dunn which is where she met her husband of 59 years, Robert “Bob” John Biggs. The two met at a dance and the rest was history. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Douglasville as well as volunteers at Wellstar Douglas Hospital.
With Bob in the military, they moved from Fayetteville, North Carolina to Texas, South Dakota, and Arkansas before settling in Mableton, Georgia in the 1960’s. Shirley took a job with Southern Bell and spent 27 years with the company through its mergers from Southern Bell, to Bellsouth, to AT&T. She retired from AT&T in 1995 and spent the remainder of her life serving the Lord and enjoying precious time with her family and friends.
Shirley is loved and remembered by her daughter Kim Hood of Cartersville, GA, and her husband, John William “Bill”; two sisters, Jean Moore and Janice Ricketts of Angier, NC, and her husband, Bill; her four grandchildren, Gary Biggs of Forsyth, GA and his wife Heather, Joshua Brownlee of Birmingham, AL, Kristi Biggs of Macon, GA, Shane Brownlee of Acworth, GA, and his wife, Danielle. Shirley was blessed in life to have eight great grandchildren who also survive her, Gracie, Beau, and Mona Kate Biggs of Forsyth, GA, James Brownlee of Birmingham, AL, Austin Sanders and London Oxford of Macon, GA, Henry and Caleb Brownlee, both of Acworth, GA. Shirley is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Talmage Barefoot, four of her sisters, Melva Carden, Jewel Phillips, Margaret Lee, and Wilhelmena Kennedy; two brothers, Buddy and Rudolph Barefoot; her son Gary Biggs, and grandson Jeremy Biggs.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 23rd, at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home from 4-8 P.M. The funeral will be held at Davis-Struempf Chapel with graveside service following will be held at Cheatham Hill Cemetery Mausoleum on Friday at 1 P.M.
For those who wish, flowers and remembrances may be sent to Davis-Struempf Chapel in Austell or in lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to St. Jude Children Hospital.
