Sara "Marlene" Griggs Barrow's Obituary
Sara “Marlene” (Crickett) Griggs Barrow, age 77 of Mableton passed away February 13, 2026.
Marlene was the heart of every family function, cherishing every moment spent with those closest to her. She delighted in creating personalized, made-up songs and would sing them on each family member’s birthday.
She was a lover of photography and you could always expect her to bring a box of photos with your name on it. She also was an avid newspaper reader, always staying connected to her community. Her adventurous spirit led her on many trips which included cruises and church trips, spending her time with Molly and Chris.
Marlene was given the affectionate nickname “Crickett” by her softball coach because she was always hopping around on the field.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Buddy and Sara Griggs; and brothers, Jack and Mark Griggs.
Marlene is survived by her beloved husband, Doug Barrow; children, Tony Land (Lisa), Jack Land, J.J. Land (Jessica), Melanie Dalon (Greg), and Doug Barrow, Jr.; siblings, Fran Griggs, Tina Scott (Mike), Suzanne Kiess, and Bobby Griggs (Johnnie); grandchildren, Brandon, Justin, Aaron “Taylor”, Will, Emma, Sunny, Samantha, Haylie, Caylie, and Evan; and great-grandchildren, Lillie, Ivy, Aiden, John Rylan, Rhett, Kylan, and Clarity.
A funeral service honoring Marlene’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 17th 4:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Conner officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation before the service from 3-4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks any donations be made in Marlene’s honor to the Shriner’s Hospital, https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/ways-to-give.
