Samuel Marion Davis II's Obituary
Samuel Marion Davis II, age 87, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026. He was born on August 22, 1938, in Toccoa, Georgia, to the late Pauline Ansley Davis and George W. Davis.
Sam graduated from Toccoa High School and began his career as a telegraph operator with Seaboard Railroad. He went on to dedicate 46 years of service as a locomotive engineer with Norfolk Southern Railroad before his retirement. His strong work ethic and commitment to his craft were a source of pride throughout his life.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church Mableton, Sam was known for his kindness, steady presence, and devotion to his family and community. In his retirement years, he found great joy in building show cars and was an active member of the Pushrods Car Club, where he shared his passion and craftsmanship with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
Sam is survived by his loving son, Marion; grandchildren Sammy, Ava, and Josh Taylor, and Chandler Walters and Ashley Speed; and his brother, Douglas and Marlene Davis.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Davis; daughter, Lisa Walters; son-in-law, Craig Walters; brother, Julian Davis; sister, Marcelle Kohn; and great-grandson, Caden Crew Walters.
A Funeral service for both Sam and his wife, Evelyn, will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service on Monday from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Sam will be remembered for his dedication to family, his lifelong career on the railroad, and the legacy of love and craftsmanship he leaves behind.
