Russ was born and raised in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. He attended Penn State University and the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. He enjoyed a long career at Bloomberg Bureau of National Affairs. A lifelong Presbyterian, Russ served as an elder at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, KS, Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, VA, and First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC. Upon returning to Kiawah Island, SC, Russ was active in the community; He served on the Johns Island Regional Planning Board, organized the media for the Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island, and sat on the Board of Governors of the College of Charleston Business School. His favorite activity, though, was organizing the Wednesday night suppers at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church. An avid collector of military miniatures, Russ was a member of the Kiawah Toy Soldiers Club and showed in state competitions. In 2011 he published a book of his soldier collection that depicted the 1903 Delhi Durbar Celebration in India. Russ is remembered for his quick wit, generous spirit, and devotion to his family. A memorial service will be held in June in Charleston.
