Ruby Nell Morris' Obituary
Ruby Nell Morris passed away peacefully in December 2022 at The Villas at Canterfield (Assisted Living) in Cumming, Georgia. Ruby Nell was born to Rufus and Ruby Braden in Griffin, Georgia. At age 19 Ruby Nell married Robert Lee Morris, Jr (Bobby), and she served him faithfully until his passing in 2006. He lovingly called her “Susie”. Together they had four children, and Ruby was a loyal wife and devoted mother. She had a long and happy life!
Ruby Nell had a strong work ethic and held many different jobs throughout her lifetime. After graduating from Douglas County High School she took classes at Georgia Evening College (now known as Georgia State University) and entered the working world at the Veterans Administration in Atlanta. Ruby Nell served as a clerk in the United States Post Office of Lithia Springs and later as a rural mail carrier. She served as bookkeeper for Winn Grocery and Building Supplies, Fred Entrekin Furniture Store, and Seminole Foundry (aluminum die-casting company). She was the office manager at Atlanta West Hospital. After 10+ years of employment with Lin Rogers Construction Company Ruby finally decided to retire from the workforce.
“Miss Ruby”, as she was fondly known to friends, was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs. She dedicated herself to serving others and serving the Lord! Miss Ruby sang in the choir, volunteered with “The Kitchen Cadets” (a group of church women who visited and entertained residents at local nursing homes), and taught a ladies’ Sunday School class (coined “Ruby Nell’s Belles”) until she delivered her last class lesson at age 90! Ruby regularly hosted prayer ministry groups at the church and in her home. She served in a multitude of church leadership positions and, alongside her husband, had a passion for Christian mission outreach.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Ruby Braden; sister, Ione Todd; husband of 59 years, Robert Lee Morris, Jr, and son, Steven Morris.
She is survived by her children Susan Hawkins, Sandra Campbell, and Kenneth Morris; grandchildren Andy Beaver, Nathan Beaver, Kacy Campbell Land, Braden Morris, Paul Morris, Graham Morris, and Michael Morris, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 13 at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs with Reverend Mike Sinyard officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 10:00am-11:00am.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs at 10531 Veterans Memorial Highway, Lithia Springs, Georgia, 30134.
