Ruby Bennett Horne 's Obituary
Mrs. Ruby Bennett Horne, daughter of the late Robert Bennett and late Lannie Bennett Livingston was born August 31, 1931 in Polkton, North Carolina. Mrs. Horne was called to heaven in the early hours of July 8th, at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Georgia.
Affectionately called "Sister" by siblings, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and joined West Rocky Ford Baptist Church. She was educated at East Polkton High School and graduated with the class of 1951.
She went on to marry Thomas Lee Horne of Marshville, North Carolina with whom she had three children. She joined her husband in worship at New Zion Baptist Church in Peachland, N.C.
After her husband died tragically at 47 years of age, Mrs. Horne worked several jobs putting her children through school. Even when she had very little money she made a way for her boys to participate in sports, band and extracurricular activities. Not even ballet, gymnastic or piano lessons were out of the question for her daughter. She dearly loved all her children. FAMILY was her top priority.
Always wanting to continue her education after high school, she enrolled in Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, N.C. where she completed her Certified Nursing Certificate. She went on the work for Cuddy Foods of Marshville, Monroe Nursing Home, Council on Aging and Hospice of Union County.
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hope Chapter, 455-B in Marshville, N.C. She enjoyed the fellowship, unity and community activism of her chapter.
Mrs. Horne loved planting flowers...especially roses & tulips. She loved quilting, cooking, canning, crochet, antiquing and talking with her best friends. In her latter years, she was especially fond of reminiscing with her beloved brother Rogers Bennett about the good old days. She loved eating the delicious chicken dumplings, greens & pound cake her Sister Jessie cooked for her.
She had a deep desire to trust in the Lord and count her blessings. Even though strokes robbed her of her vision and ability to walk she thanked God for waking up each morning. Her home was always open to family and friends.
Mrs. Horne leaves to celebrate her life two sons; Tommy Horne of Marshville, North Carolina, Steavon Horne of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter; Gwendolyn Horne of Lithia Springs, Georgia; four Grandchildren; three surviving brothers; Nathaniel Bennett, Jimmy Bennett and Grover Bennett; two surviving sisters; Arletha Bennett Wilson, Jessie Bennett Laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
