Roy William Hairston's Obituary
Roy William “Bocat” Hairston, 61 of Mableton, Georgia, formerly of Madison, North Carolina, beloved husband and best friend of Teresa Belthrop Hairston for 40 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2016. He was surrounded by his wife, sons and friends who he had laughed with, lived for and loved. He was born January 9, 1955 to the late Roy Barlow Hairston and Ada Webster Hairston. He was also predeceased by his brother, Matthew Hairston. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and was greatly supported and encouraged in his struggle by his dear cousin, Mrs. Doris Kallam.
Roy was born in Madison, North Carolina, where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Madison-Mayodan High School in 1973 and studied at Guilford Technical Community College. Roy worked as a master carpenter and enjoyed running his own business, Hairston Home Improvement Services. He greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting, but especially bass fishing from his boat. He participated in several fishing tournaments and taught many others to fish and develop a lifelong love of the sport. He always said “fishing begins in your mind as you take in the beauty of all that God created.”
Beside his wife, Teresa, Roy is survived by his two sons, of whom he was very proud: Cameron Hairston of Atlanta, and wife Jamila Brown Hairston; John Hairston and wife Shayla Stallworth Hairston of Atlanta and grandson Grayson Hairston; brothers, James (Debra) Hairston, George (Sue) Hairston, and Alexander (Katrina) Hairston; sister, Ada Hairston, special friend, Barron Lash and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives, and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Wellstar Tranquility Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last 4 months were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
