Roy C. Black's Obituary
Roy C. Black, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 26, 2012. Roy was born June 19, 1928 in Pensacola, Florida to Hazel Crooke & Roy F Black. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Clay Black; his children: Charles C. Black & wife Brenda; John B. Black & partner Larry Rudisill; R. Scott Black; grandchildren: Annie Black Richards & husband Terry, Reginald Black & wife Amy; great grandchildren: Reed, Elias, & Liliana Richards and Abigail Black. He is also survived by his brother, Ron Black of Lithia Springs; and nieces and nephews.
Roy was a 1946 graduate of Georgia Military College and attended the University of Georgia. He served his country during the Korean conflict flying 100 combat missions and received the air medal and distinguished flying cross as a jet fighter pilot. Later he ferried jet planes to Europe to be used by NATO. He settled in Austell, Georgia and became a real estate developer. He had a great love of history and particularly local history. He took special interest in the people and the history of this community. He also created documentaries on the history of Austell and Lithia Springs. His greatest love was his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Austell First United Methodist Church (5705 Mulberry St Austell, GA 30106.)
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4 - 8 PM. The funeral service to honor his life will be held at Austell First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 29th with Rev. Michael Martin officiating.
