The first time I met Rosie, I walked into her home and was in the midst of four beautiful, amazing women and there was great love in the room. I honestly had to ask which one was Rosie.
Bobbie, Faye and Wanda had Rosie ready to go to the urgent care and made me promise to call them, no matter how late it was when we got back home.
These fine ladies were more than just neighbors, they had a strong friendship and were a devoted family. They knew all the intricate details of Rosie's health, likes and dislikes, etc. and their love for her was a driving force of the quality of care I was able to give.
Though I didn't know Rosie very long, I loved every moment. We had a lot in common, like our strong faith, love of the Lord, praying together and Southern gospel music, particularly Bill and Gloria Gaither's style of music over the last 50 years. A dear friendship, though short, was made and I truly loved caring for her. I always felt I was caring for a special angel God sent.
She talked about her Sunday School class and how important and special they made her feel. She was brokenhearted when the doctor put her on a liquid diet as her class was bringing lunch that day. She smiled and laughed about how much better it would be when they did get to bring it, after all the anticipation and waiting.
Asking questions about "the old days" was a favorite past time for me. She lit up and proceeded telling stories of her growing up in Kentucky, but her favorite and happiest stories was of the loves of her life, Donna and Dan.
Dan and Donna loved and cared for Rosie as the Bible talks about. Dan honored and respected her and filled her life with so much laughter and love, it made up for all the years before knowing each other.
Donna was the axis that Rosie's world revolved around. They had a bond that most moms and daughters only dream of.
Just the mention of Donna's name would bring a smile to her face and I could always tell when Donna called. Rosie's face would be glowing, she'd get some spunk and you could just feel their love for each other through the telephone wire. They were devoted to each other and were very best friends, too.
Like I said earlier, I didn't know Rosie that long, but come to think of it, if I'd known her for many years, it still wouldn't be enough.
I'm a much better person for having known her and richly blessed and honored to have the opportunity to serve her. Rosalie Boston will remain in a most special place in my heart and life forever and I look forward to seeing my sweet friend again, and we're gonna dance.
God bless and keep you close to His heart.
