Roland "R.L" Fleming's Obituary
Roland L. “R.L.” Fleming, of Austell, GA, age 97, passed away peacefully at Prebyterian Village Austell on October 18, 2017. He was born in Lyerly, GA and grew up in Trion, GA, then moved to Austell in 1947 to start his businesses.
Roland served his county in the U.S. Army during World War II, Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star Medals. Roland was also very active in the Post 54, 40, and 8 branches of the American Legion. He was a member of Austell First Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Roland was businessman in the grocery, Gulf service station, and automotive supplies business. He served as a volunteer with the Sweetwater Valley Camp for many years. When he was not serving his community, his passion was enjoying time in his vegetable and flower garden with Dorothy. Roland was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy (1/18/2010), along with his father and mother; and brother, Leon Fleming. He is survived by his son, John “Sammy” Fleming of Austell; three grandchildren and their spouses; and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 23, 1:00 to 2:00 PM until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 PM in Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. Private interment services will be held in West Hill Cemetery, Trion, GA.
