Richard Franklin Strickland's Obituary
Richard Franklin Strickland, age 60, of Austell passed away October 29, 2022. Richard was born to Franklin and Harriet Strickland in Atlanta, and grew up in the Clayton County area. He attended Morrow High School.
Richard was a giving person that would sacrifice the shirt on his back for those he cared about. He was instrumental in the operation of Rockdale House for Men and House for Women, and was critical in helping many people find their sobriety. He was very proud of his work and his 21 years of sobriety.
Richard loved to be in the woods. From hunting to fishing, his peace and happiness was found in nature. He was not ready to go and still had so much work to do and people to help. He was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, George Franklin Strickland; and daughter, Alicia Strickland. He is survived by his mother, Harriet Abercrombie (husband, Herman “Snow”) of Locust Grove; children, Matthew Strickland (wife, Renee) of Jackson, and Katie Holdbrook (husband, Donald) of Powder Springs; siblings, Charles Strickland (wife, Susan) of Acworth, Merry Holley (husband, Ken) of Senoia, Susie Strickland of Clayton, and Forrest "Lee" Strickland (wife, Christy) of LaGrange; Sandra Strickland of Panama City Beach, FL; and many beloved extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 4th, 3:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM before the service.
