Richard Laurens' Obituary
Richard R. Laurens, 72, of Dallas, Ga., passed to Glory on January 4th, 2022, of cirrhosis. He was born in New York City on January 7, 1949. Richard graduated from Mainland High School, Daytona Beach, Florida and received his Batchelor of Science degree from Stetson University Business School, Deland, Florida, graduating with honors in December, 1970. He married his college sweetheart, Cynthia Birtwistle on her graduation day from Stetson on August 4th, 1972. Richard was offered a position in the hotel industry immediately after graduation, delaying his dream of Law School. He assisted in the development of two major hotel corporations world wide, built several companies including a medical products plant, was in the management of a retail convenience operation, retiring from it after another ten years, and spent 3 years breaking records for Uber before covid impacted businesses world wide. He was a member of his church, St. Thomas the Apostle in Smyrna, Ga., for over 40 years, a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus and was connected to other groups within the church’s organization. Richard is survived by his wife, Cynthia, his children Eric E. Laurens and Rochelle R. Taylor, as well as grandchildren Erica Laurens-Bragg, Jacob B. Taylor, Alexandra N. Laurens, Shelby J. Taylor, and Gabriel A. Laurens. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Smyrna, Ga., on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:30am.
