Allen, Rev. John Woodrow Allen, age 90, was called to his Heavenly home on Thursday, June 19, 2008. He passed away while at the WellStar Community Hospice in Austell. He was born on March 26, 1918 in Lumpkin County, Georgia
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday,June 22, in the chapel of Davis-Struempf Funeral Home in Austell with the Revs. Bill Lewis, J.D. Sosebee and Tony Stallings officiating. Burial will be in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Allen was a retired minister. He has been ordained with the Congregational Holiness Church for over 50 years. He organized and built the Faith Tabernacle C.H. Church in Flowery Branch in the 1950's. The church is still in existence today. During his ministry, he pastured five churches while continuing to work full time. He was a heavy-duty mechanic for Nichols Cont. Co. for many years. After retiring from Nichols, he opened Allen's Garage in Austell. He owned and operated Allen's Service Center on Austell Road when he retired at 78 years of age. The business was previously Allen's Gulf Service and then Allen's Texaco. Besides his parents, three brothers and 2 sisters, Rev. Allen is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vodie, of 68 wonderful years and son, Johnnie Allen. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Evans of Austell, two sons, Jimmy Allen of Powder Springs, Tony Allen of Douglasville; son-in-law, Neal Evans and daughter- in-law, Sharon Allen; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
