Phil ( Preach)married me and Cheryl in a beautiful garden setting in Jackson,Miss on April 08,1982. Phil was a wonderful pastor and friend and Phil and church family love was the reason Cheryl and I married after 11 years giving together at age 32. I lost my wife Cheryl September 01,2023 . To this day, I miss his wonderful sermons at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Jackson after Phil transferred from Covenant to Claremont in 1983. Cheryl occasionally gave Preach special treats after Sunday service.Choc Brownies was his favorite.Thank you Preach for starting Cheryl and I off to a love story life for 41 years. Still miss you to this day.

Rev. Esty (“Preach”) befriended me during the 1982-1983 school year while I served for one year as the Norcross HS band director. I was 27 years old and single at the time. I was from Memphis and had been in Georgia for 4 years in another town. I moved to Norcross for higher pay. The result was that I had moved from my Georgia friends and also had a broken heart. His friendship, along with attending with him Clairmont Presbyterian Church, provided me a peace that I am certain was granted to me by Jesus. I moved back to Memphis after one year at Norcross, but I remained his friend the rest of my life. My wife and I visited with him and Mary Ann on his 95th birthday. He had a clear mind and was mobile. It was a joyous visit. I will always remember how he made everyone feel welcome and how kind he was. I just found out that he had passed when I tried calling him the day after what would have been his 96th birthday. I will simply always remember him and know I will see him again. (Correction: He served at Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN where my parents knew him.) Dr. H. Sam Shaw, Germantown, TN

My condolences to the Esty Family. I started at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA in 1987. I always enjoyed working with him doing services up until he retired Well done thy good and faithful servant.
