Portia Lane Pittman's Obituary
Portia Pittman was born in 1948 in Austell, Ga in her family home. She resided in Douglasville, Ga upon her death on August 13, 2024.
She was a loving, caring and devoted mother, wife and friend to all. She was devoted to her Church and her extended family there.
She is PRICELESS to all of us.
She touched all the lives of everyone who knew her in a special way. She will always be here in our hearts and memories.
Portia graduated from high school at 16 years of age. She continued on to Cosmetology school to become a hairdresser, going on to win awards for her hair styles over the years. She also sang with a band, which led to her signing a recording contract with Epic Records. In 1969, she had a hit country song, “You Gotta Pay Alimony”. She was also a back-up singer for the Blue Ridge Quartet and had a guest appearance on the Billy Dilworth Show. She went on to become a family advocate helping people in need at Daniel Memorial in Jacksonville, Florida.
During her lifetime, Portia published 22 books, including 3 children’s books. Her most meaningful book was a love story, Maureen’s Whisper, which represented her love for her husband, Ronnie.
Portia was preceded in death by her parents, Icy and Earl Paine; father-in-law Paul Tolbert and mother-in-law Glennie Tolbert; brother, Larry Paine; John Hodges (Chosen Brother); sister, Patricia Paine.
She leaves behind her husband, Ronnie Pittman; children Lane Miller (Frank), Christi Radcliffe (Brad), Angie Vanoer (George); sons, Jamie Wicker, Steve Pittman (Stephanie); grandchildren, Charlotte, Liam, Dillon, Madeline, Landon and Taylor; great-grandsons, Alex and Jimothy; great-granddaughter Faye; brother, Chris Paine (Ruth); sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Paine, Sandra Pittman, Sandra Bagley, Kathi Pierce (Don), Cindy Hanson (Ken), Jean Hawkins; brother-in-laws Glen Pittman, Mark Pittman, Bill Snell (Cheri) and John Snell, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
In memory of Portia, donations can be made to Christ Life Church, the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
A funeral service honoring Portia's life will be held on Friday 11:00 AM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Glen Pittman and Rev. Tommy Paine officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home. The family will hold an additional service on Saturday 1:00 PM at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Orange Park, Florida with the interment to follow.
