Phillip Elliot Stanley's Obituary
Phillip Elliot Stanley of Winston transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 6, 2021, after a brave fight against cancer. Phillip was 79 years old and passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
On May 17, 1941, Phillip was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. His father, William “Bill” Stanley, and mother, Sarah “Blondie” Thomas, await him in heaven. Phillip’s brother Jerry Stanley has also passed, but he leaves behind several beloved siblings: his sister Rynell Samples (Doug) and brothers Billy (Valerie), Ron (Genese), and Marty (Sabrina) Stanley. Phillip grew up in Atlanta and loved Georgia Tech, Varsity hot dogs, and the Atlanta Braves. In his youth, he played in the Salvation Army Band and enjoyed church services there. As a teenager, he attended the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and enjoyed staying in touch with his classmates as he aged. Phillip served proudly in the United States Navy, a signalman aboard the USS Oriskany.
Everyone knew Phillip as an amazing family man. He spent 40 years with his wife, Anna Stanley. They share four children: Anthony Stanley of Sebring, Florida, Sara Stanley of Winston, Sonya Abbott of Cumming, and Serena Crumley of Cumming. Phillip was very fond of his daughter-in-law, Marie Stanley of Sebring, FL, and his sons-in-law, Jason Abbott and Matthew Crumley, both of Cumming. He dedicated his later years to the grandchildren he loved so much: Julie Bowman (Elijah), Zoe Stanley, Phillip “Isaiah” Hendrix, Ella Stanley, DJ Lovett, Andre Lovett, Harli Abbott, Kobe Lovett, and Khara Abbott. Phillip also adored several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Many colleagues loved Phillip and recognized his amazing work ethic. His career included various positions with Golden Corral and Ryan’s steakhouses, Publix grocery stores, and Walmart grocery stores. He loved helping others and sharing his knowledge.
Before settling in Winston, GA, Phillip resided in numerous cities, including Charlestown, WV, Chandler, AZ, Clanton, AL, and Austell, GA. Phillip loved to travel and was always ready for a family road trip. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and painting. Phillip loved our heavenly Father and enjoyed church services at Highest Praise Church of God in Austell.
Funeral arrangements have been made with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home on East-West Connector in Austell. The family will welcome visitors on Friday, March 12th, from 4 to 8 p.m., and will hold the funeral service on Saturday, March 13th at 2 p.m. Visitors are also invited to spend time with the family starting at noon on the day of the service. Phillip will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA, later this month. Due to a delayed burial, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his honor to the Highest Praise Church of God in Austell.
