Olen H. Wallace's Obituary
Olen Henry Wallace, 80 years old, passed away on September 30, 2011 at his home after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Darrell Hunter officiating. Internment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4 to 8 pm. Olen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty June Sanders Wallace; his daughters, Reneé (Randy) Fleming of Marietta and Tracey (Jeff) Karanovich; three grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Christy, Jamie (Mark) Cook, and Erin (Chad) Kelley. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren: Elias, Ethan and Erick Christy; Mason, Chandler and Camden Cook; Rylee and Addison Kelley; all of Powder Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Olen was preceded in death by his siblings, Orene Towery, Nellie Dyson, Ann Stephens, Ray and Marlon Wallace. He is survived by his sister, Rebecca McConnell of Dallas. For 60 years, Olen was a member at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Powder Springs and served as a deacon for 38 years. He retired in 1993 from Lockheed Martin Company after 42 years of service. Olen loved his family and his life was centered around them. “Papa” was always available to them- watching them ride their hot wheels, tricycles, bicycles, and on through the motorcycle stage. He was involved in whatever was going on in their lives- from ball games, cheerleading, hunting, fishing, roller skating, camping, boating, water skiing, vacationing, and martial arts. He glowed when the boys caught a big bass out of the lake. Olen loved to travel and his love for missions led him to visit and support Good Samaritan Baptist Missions operating in Honduras and Nicaragua. For over 20 years, he and Betty supported a number of children enrolled in the Opportunity of a Lifetime Program. They also supported other programs, such as Feed the Hungry, The Bible Institute, The Radio Ministry, and several national pastors. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the people of Longleaf Hospice for their support and care during his last days.
