O'Mara Cook's Obituary
O’Mara Cook, age 63 of Mableton passed away May 19, 2020.
Margaret O’Mara Cook née Sanders was a loving wife of 44 years to her husband CCPD Major Darrell Eugene (Ret.). She was a dedicated mother to her sons John Euel and Army MSG. Adam James. O’Mara was kind and supportive to her daughter-in-law Annie and fiercely devoted to her grandchildren Darrell, Jonas, Katie, Liam and Lydia. She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Smyrna where her grace and light shined as a model of Christian charity and kindness.
She was both and artist and an artisan. She was a fountain of creativity and possessed an unmatched eye for color and coordination. During the course of her life she worked as a bridal gown seamstress, a florist, and a painter in the styles of Dutch Realism and French Faux finishes. Late in life she decided to return to school; an avenue she had left to raise her children, and O’Mara earned her associate degree in Culinary Arts from the Atlanta Arts Institute; graduating as their Honor Graduate at top of her class. From there she made wedding cakes and catered meals for an innumerable multitude of family, friends, clients and guests throughout the Atlanta area. She retired from the Lovett School as chief baker in 2018. From there O’Mara’s last months were spent full-time on her twin passions: her church family and her grand-children. At Covenant, O’Mara was a dedicated member of the Chancel Choir, sewed blankets for children at Scottish Rite and created banana pudding that was the stuff of legend.
She was beloved by all and will be missed.
O’Mara is survived by her husband, Darrell Cook of Mableton; son, John Euel Cook of Des Moines, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Annie James Cook of Mableton; sister and brother-in-law, Trisha and Travis Roberts of Robertsdale, AL; grandchildren, Liam, Lydia, Darrell, Jonas and Katie.
